Under Milk Wood - the gathering

Our November 2017 production is going to be Dylan Thomas's Under Milk Wood, directed by Alison Utting.

There will be a first get-together to explore the text, share ideas and meet people who would like to be involved on Monday 17th July at 7.30pm at Hermon Chapel Arts Centre, Oswestry SY11 1LF.

You don't have to be an actor. We're looking for musicians, creative artists and lovers of poetry, as well as actors (don't worry about the accent!) and backstage teams. LADS actress in local film

One of the LADS committee members, Alison Utting, has been successful in auditioning for a key role in a local film project. 'Run For Your Life', produced by Rocking Horse Studios, is a community feature film about bullying and will be filmed in Shropshire and Wales over the next few months. Alison will be playing the part of Gwen, a college lecturer whose brother gets into a tricky situation when he tries to help an autistic student from a troubled background. "It was a pretty daunting experience," says Alison, "but I was helped enormously by the workshops and tuition that we have had in the LADS over the last few years. A few of the LADS have been involved in film work and their advice was really helpful. I can't wait to start work. I met some of the other actors at the audition and they seem like a really good team."

Our November production will be Under Milk Wood by Dylan Thomas, a popular and much-loved play set in a Welsh harbour town. It's almost poetry - Thomas called it 'prose with blood-pressure' - the lilt and fall of the voices of the villagers forming a sound-tapestry that is hypnotic. Yet it's also salty and down-to-earth, filled with humour and humanity.

Wales One-Act final at Newtown

This is going to be so exciting!

The Montgomeryshire heat held recently at Berriew saw not just one, but two local productions being selected to go through to the all-Wales final. Llanymynech audiences will have already seen the moving, atmospheric production of Jane Shepard's Nine (directed by Julia Thomas) - which also won the Technical Achievement Award at Berriew. The GADS (from Guilsfield) went home clutching an armful of awards and a place in the final too. The adjudicator, Mr David Price, said that he firmly felt that either of these plays could be capable of winning at Newtown and going forward to the UK final in Belfast.

The Wales Final will be held at Theatr Hafren on Friday 2nd June at 7.30pm and Saturday 3rd June at 7.00pm, with adjudications at the end of each evening. All are welcome to come for one evening or both. (LADS will perform on the Friday). Tickets are £10. There will be a Hog Roast Buffet at the end of the Saturday evening.

AGM (Absolutely Gorgeous Meeting)

It's that time again!

The AWARD-WINNING LADS would like to invite all and sundry to their AGM, on Thursday 11th June, commencing at 8.30pm in the Tal Humphreys Room at the Village Hall and then continuing in the pub :)

All are welcome to attend the meeting BUT only LADS members are allowed to vote - so if your membership is due, don't forget to arrive clutching a tenner!
