Festival success

The LADS have enjoyed spectacular success at the MCDA one act drama festival.

The two-day event was packed with high-quality drama from three Montgomeryshire drama groups. Adjudicator David Price was full of praise for all three LADS plays and when the time came for the major awards he gave the trophy for Technical Achievement to 'Nine'.  Director Julia Thomas, Lighting Director Rosie Druce, and Sound Engineers Jenny and Norman Harris were complimented on the superb sense of atmosphere and mood that they brought to the harrowing play about two imprisoned women. Crew members Richard Dibble and Declan O'Connor were also part of the technical team.

As the Montgomeryshire festival was the last of the Welsh heats, Mr Price went on to announce the six finalists from all across the country who will take their plays to compete at Theatr Hafren in June - and 'Nine' was one of them! Huge congratulations to the whole team and the two actors, Marg Kynaston and Pam Johnson, who gave a terrific performance. They will now get to perform on a full-sized professional stage along with five other plays, including 'Doubles' which was the Guilsfield ADS entry.

Do come and support them. The final is being held on the evenings of Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd June at Theatr Hafren, Newtown. Good luck, LADS!

One Act Plays

Our next project is a selection of one-act plays which we will be performing at Llanymynech and then taking to the Mid-Wales Drama Festival.

A Magic Night, by Dickon Faux-Nightingale - A world premier from one of the LADS own writers, which explores quantum mechanics, online dating and the recipe for the perfect snakebite. Directed by Dickon.

Nine, by Jane Shepard - A riveting look at the power of human relationships to overcome the most inhumane circumstances. CONTAINS STRONG LANGUAGE. Directed by Julia Thomas.

Emporium, by Bob Tucker - A very odd sort of shop is the setting for this all-female comedy. Directed by Alison Utting.

Thursday 20th, Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd April - 7.45pm - Llanymynech Village Hall.

Tickets available at the Village Shop, Oswestry Herbarium, by phone (01691 830558) or online via our secure booking service (click 'buy tickets' on our menu).

The RSC continues to partner with LADS

The next Open Stages project is in development and meanwhile the RSC has told LADS,  “We would like to keep working with you and your company.” (Ian Wainwright, Producer, Open Stages programme)

We are thrilled to be part of this exciting collaboration between the RSC and amateur theatre groups. We will be welcoming some RSC practitioners to Llanymynech for some inspirational workshops (watch this space!) and we also hope to attend workshops in Stratford this year.

We have also been endorsed by The RSC with permission to use the Open Stages logo for 2017.

Oswestry Arts Link

New online arts forum

LADS is proud to support a new project that hopes to bring together all artists, groups, events and venues in Oswestry and the surrounding area.

The aim is to create a new online forum that will be a one-stop site for the exchange of information, a shared event calendar and marketplace for events.

The brainchild of Alison Utting and Pam Johnson, both members of Llanymynech Amateur Dramatics Society, the forum is being seed funded by the Mary Hignett Bequest Fund with a contribution from the residual funds of the closing Oswestry Arts Association. Alison says, “We are keen for everyone to be able to share their resources, whether that be artists, costumes, equipment or information. Too often major events clash because there is no one place for everyone to communicate. We hope that local media will see the site as the place to go for information on all things art related in Oswestry."

There will be an open meeting at Kinokulture Cinema on Arthur Street on Monday 30th January at 7.30pm. All artists, galleries, arts venues and the media are invited to contribute their ideas and desires for the new forum.
